Please don't excuse ignorance as stupidity. Because it isn't! Everyone is not a rule follower but they can learn. Just like everyone is not born to know what is right from wrong, they have to be taught. Asking questions is a learning tool we have, but it does make you wonder how some people have made it through life without knowing the answers to simple everyday questions of life. Working to answer these peoples questions can be tiresome and rather frustrating at points because you feel like a record that is on a continuous loop, sort of like a bad dream.
I go through the same routine every morning before work; shower, dress, cup of coffee or three, grab my bags and head to work. I get there thinking I ready for any question the population can throw at me but I am never disappointed at the one question of the week that I just hang my head down and pond my choice of careers. Working as a receptionist at a jail can be tedious, especially when you and one other person is doing the job of 4 people with phones that do not stop ringing after nine in the morning. In this job you are the first to get blamed for someone being in JAIL!
PUT ON THE BRAKES, PLEASE!
"No ma'am! We did not arrest them. We are just the holding facility, but I will be more than happy to give you the name and number of the arresting agency and the name of the officer if you have any more question on the detail of the arrest!"
I could hear the lady mumble something profane before slamming the phone down in my ear. I replace the phone back on the hook and dropped my head in my hands. I feel a hand pat me on the back, "it's going to be okay. You can't let people get under your skin."
"Yeah, I know! I'm just burned out" I said, "I taking a break. I'll be back in a little while."
